About Solidor

At Solidor we have been designing, engineering and manufacturing composite doors in the UK since 2004 and our original doors still stand the test of time today.

Solidor was created by Andrew Mobley who sought to bring to the market something genuinely unique, that would give the beautiful appearance of timber, but with the benefits of modern, low maintenance materials.

Since 2008 Gareth Mobley has been at the helm of Solidor, keeping the family name associated with the brand. Gareth has been instrumental in developing what is now widely agreed to be the finest composite door in the UK.

Each and every Solidor is manufactured by our talented craftsmen in our multi-site production facility in Stoke on Trent. Our doors are sold and installed through a nationwide network of experienced and proven installation companies.

At Solidor we pride ourselves on being innovative and leading the way for the industry. Our fast paced product development programme has culminated in a number of market ‘firsts’ with Solidor being the first company to launch Chartwell Green and Duck Egg blue as new colours in the composite door sector as well as the introduction of the new Ultion cylinder and the £1000 anti-snapping guarantee.

2004 - 2006

In 2004, Solidor was set up as sister company to Nice Door Panels, launching a unique 48mm timber core solid composite door. In 2005 six colours were available inside and out and stable doors and matching side panels were introduced. In 2006 Solidor re-located to larger premises and introduced cream and Schwarzbraun (black) colours to the range, both market firsts, along with 100% recycled Werbar reinforcement.

2007 - 2008

In 2007 anthracite grey and foiled white were launched, expanding the colour range to 10, by far the biggest in the door sector. Solidor also introduced the 'Green Promise', the composite door market's first environmental policy. In 2008 Gareth Mobley moved from sales and marketing director to managing director, taking over the reigns of the business from his Father. One of his first projects was to introduce the contemporary Italia Collection, which harnessed modern door furniture and traditional rim and key wind up locking, while achieving PAS23-24 certification and Secured by Design for security.

2009 - 2010

In 2009 Solidor introduced French Doors, along with the addition of Kömmerling's highly impressive C70 door profile. This was the first of its kind to be 100% lead free and featuring 5 chambers, along with extra colours including black and cream foil. In 2010 Irish Oak was introduced to the range, along with more door frame colours and the market leading and premium Mila Pro Style door furniture range. We also updated our ISO9001:2000 quality management system to become BSI accredited, along with BSEN1279.

2011 - 2012

In 2011 we extended our colour range to 13 with the market's first Chartwell Green option, along with Kömmerling's ovolo O70 Gold door frame. We also designed, engineered and put into production our own exclusive door hinge. Once again we moved premises to cope with the continued growth. In 2012 we added our own range of handmade traditional door furniture, along with another market first, Duck Egg blue, increasing our range to 14. The exclusive Avantis and heritage locks were also introduced to the range, along with the Yale Key Free locking option and the Pro Secure handle.

2013 - 2014

2013 was a landmark year. We released three new colour finishes, unveiled new hardware and launched Heritage; a brand new lock. A Solidor App was also born, we published an inventive 60-page composite door brochure, and launched a national installer network. Recognition came with approved GGF membership and the granting of BSI kitemark status, topped off by winning 'Promotional Campaign of the Year - Retail' at the G13 Awards and we exhibited at The FIT Show and Grand Designs Live.

Further innovation in 2014 included the rolling out of an online door builder, launch of Solidor 88 and Solidor R9 and the development of new designs, locks and handles.
