Choosing a glazing design to create a truly unique entrance – Part 1

Never underestimate the impact an external door can have on your home.   Having the right entrance gives visitors an insight into what to expect when they walk through the door.

When you decide to update your external doors, you should first consider which styles and colours are going to compliment the architecture of your home.

You’ll probably have a pretty clear picture of the style you want in your head.  But when it comes to the glazing options you might not have given it much thought… Until now!

Solidor have a fine range of beautiful glass designs to compliment your chosen style of composite door.  You probably didn’t know this but that many of the glass options available are manufactured right here in our glass shop by our skilled glaziers.

Let the sunshine in

Choosing a door with a glazed panel is a fantastic way illuminate your hallway with natural light.  In the sunlight the bevels used in designs like Reflections, Simplicity, and Diamond act as a prism and will create a beautiful rainbow on your internal walls.

If privacy is a concern for you, a sandblasted design like the Victorian or London Etch Border suits both contemporary and traditional door styles. These designs have a flat frosted finish and whilst they’ll allow the light through, they both offer a high level of obscurity.

Modern Glazing

Another option with a truly modern twist would be the Matrix design.  This attractive panel features laser cut stainless steel elements which are beautifully offset against rain textured glass.

This is a truly contemporary design and will create the focal point of your door.  It looks fab as a contrast to the wood grain of Walnut, Golden Oak and Irish Oak, but also looks great with the bold hues of Peacock Blue, Rich Aubergine and Red

So whether your looking for a contemporary or traditional glazing accompaniment for your new Solidor, you’ll definitely find your perfect match within our range.

When it comes to glass it’s important to take into account the security features and certifications that are on offer as well.  So to help you we’ve listed them below:

1.Low E Glass

Low E glass works by reflecting the summer heat our and the winter heat in.  It does this by using a thin metallic coating on or in the glass.  Ultimately low E glass is great at increasing the thermal efficiency of your door.  All units available from Solidor are Low E.

2. Argon Filled

What is Argon I we hear you say?  Put simply…… it’s a non-toxic, odourless gas used on windows.  It works to prevent frost from forming at the bottom of the unit and will also increase the sound insulation of your new Solidor.

All units available from Solidor are Argon filled.

3.  Laminated Glass

You can select to have laminated glass as an additional extra. It’s important to know that laminated glass is a requirement for the Police preferred specification of ‘Secure by Design’.

Laminated glass has two main benefits:-

  • It adds an extra level of security as it holds together when shattered to create a spider web cracking pattern.
  • It increases sound insulation compared to that of an unlaminated glass panel of the same thickness.

4. Kitemarks

This Kitemark is a UK Product & Service quality certification mark, and although it isn’t a legal requirement, it is universally recognised and is a very highly regarded certification to carry.

The Kitemark indicates that the British Standards Institution have performed independent tests on the product. All of the glass designs available from Solidor carry a BSI Kitemark

So there you have it, not only are the glass designs from Solidor beautiful but they also carry additional security features and certifications.  To see the full range of glass available why not download our brand new glass catalogue here
