Solidor & The Residence Collection working together

April 20th 2017

Mr & Mrs Draper live in a single storey converted coach house/stable block in Suffolk. The original conversion was completed in 1990 and the couple have recently completed an extension to incorporate a porch and a shower room which has changed the layout of access to the property.

The existing doors and windows were fitted when we first started the conversion so they needed to be changed. Time had definitely taken its toll on them.

The Drapers contacted local firm DISS Windows and Doors as they supply and fit both Solidor and The Residence Collection.

We really liked the fact that the doors and windows matched each other and that they have a realistic wood grain effect. The colour range available from both companies is great, there’s so much choice. We’d already got Chartwell Green in our minds so it was great to see that we could have it in both the door and windows. It works well as a contrast against the dark wood panelling on the side of our home.

 Choosing the perfect style

The Drapers wanted a traditional cottage style door and window for their new entrance. By doing this they would be able to keep the period features of the property. The historical design of the Residence windows and the wood grain effect of the Solidor meant that the Drapers would have all the traditional aesthetics that they desired but with the added benefits of the modern materials.

Although we really liked the some of the styles from the contemporary range, they would have looked out of place on our home.  We chose the Flint 1 Solidor which features a small glazed unit to give us a good level of privacy whilst still letting in the light.  We liked the tongue and groove effect of the Flint range as it gives the appearance of an authentic wooden door. For the window we opted for R9.  We really liked the fact that the R9 windows are hand finished and have a flush appearance making them look like traditional wooden windows.

The End Result

Now that the extension is complete, the Drapers are so happy with the end result.

Our home looks just how we wanted it to and there’s the added benefit of reduction in noise and heat loss. We’re really pleased with how easy it was to work with DISS, Solidor and The Residence Collection. We’d definitely use all three again.
