Introduction

Aimee is one half of the Instagram renovation account @thecountryreno. She lives in the countryside with her husband Sean and their son. On social media, Aimee shares their lifestyle, along with DIY tips, home inspiration and their renovation journey.

Aimee works as a change management consultant day to day and as a content creator in her spare time. With a background in radio and TV, she began documenting her home renovation using her video skills. The Instagram account quickly grew, and it has since become a creative outlet alongside her day job.

About her home

Aimee’s home was built in 1981 and had only one previous owner. Inside, it still had a very 80s décor and needed complete renovation, but the property’s location completely sold it to the couple; they are surrounded by countryside and open fields.

Aimee says, “I’m into that country, farmhouse feel to a home, with oak beams, wider skirtings and traditional details, so the house felt perfect.”

Originally, the couple expected the whole renovation to take around ten years. However, once they got started, that quickly changed. The kitchen was completely renovated in the first year, followed by most of the house in year two. The bathrooms are the final spaces left to finish.

Traditional stable doors for a country cottage feel

Aimee has both a kitchen door and a back door at the rear of her home. After installing a Solidor in the kitchen, she fell in love with it and wanted a second one to match.

“After we converted our garage into a kitchen, we knew we needed a new door for this space to bring it all together. We came across a Solidor online that I loved straight away, and had it installed by my builder. Once it was in, it made such a difference that the other door at the back of the house just looked completely out of place.”

On Instagram, the kitchen door naturally became a part of Aimee’s content. Within a month, three of her reels went viral, each featuring shots of the door, with one video reaching more than 4 million views.

Aimee continues, “It’s become my most asked question on Instagram: ‘Where is your door from?’ The kitchen door was already such a big feature in my content, and people were naturally drawn to it, which made choosing the second one really easy.”

Aimee now has two matching back doors, both are a Flint Beeston stable door in Chartwell Green with black hardware.

Balancing style with reassurance

Aimee wanted a door that felt right for the style of her home and gave her family added security and peace of mind.

“Honestly, I bought it because I loved it.”

The stable door design was a key part of that decision. “We knew we wanted a dog, and I love being able to have the top half open for fresh air.” The design matches the countryside setting and adds to the traditional feel of the home.

Security was just as important. “Having that added reassurance makes a big difference when you live in the countryside,” she explains.

Aimee loves neutral colours with subtle splashes of colour. She describes Chartwell Green as “that perfect country-cottage-style green. It’s classic but still stands out just enough.”

Quick, efficient installation from start to finish

DL Windows installed Aimee’s second door. They carried out a full survey and brought colour swatches and brochures, which Aimee says, “made such a difference.”

“Being able to see everything in person really helped with the decision. DL Windows were really flexible and easy to deal with.”

The installation itself was clean and efficient. “It only took a couple of hours. They worked around what we needed, like leaving a flat threshold so we could continue our renovation and build a back door step,” says Aimee. Overall, it was a smooth, professional experience from start to finish.

A door that pulls everything together

The new back door has transformed Aimee’s garden and complements the interiors beautifully. Aimee says, “The doors look beautiful and feel secure. It’s truly something you notice every day.”

“For me, the fact that I went back and got a second one says everything. It was always going to be Solidor again.”

She adds, “It’s one of those features that just pulls everything together. It’s practical, it looks great, and it really suits the style of the house. It just works.”
